24-26 August 2012The origin, history and general theory of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga will be covered briefly. We will then travel through the whole sequence of the First Series in an adapted, lighter form, examining all the major posture groups, examining alignment and postural integrity, entering, holding, deepening and exiting the poses safely and correctly. Modifications will be offered in the more complex areas to suit individual needs and abilities. This part of the programme will be suitable for anyone with three months or more experience of the Ashtanga Vinyasa style or similar dynamic form.
Are you among those who find it really hard to lift off and jump back smoothly between postures, or jumping to sit without ‘crashing’? Vinyasa is the heart and soul of dynamic yoga styles. This part of the programme will be suitable for everyone practicing Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Dynamic Yoga, Vinyasa Krama or similar - it will go a long way toward developing your Vinyasa skills. Here are some areas we will be working on:
Cleansing the energy channels of the body is a very different practice from the First Series - extensive spinal work, further opening of larger joints, more inversions... Here we’ll explore the traditional Mysore style handling of the sequence as well as some modifications of postures and movements to allow us to grow the practice according to our own abilities and limitations. This part is only suitable for those who regularly practice the full First Series or above.
Throughout the workshop we’ll explore effective use of our locks (Bandhas), work on improving our Ujjayi breathing, and investigate the internal dimensions of the practice through self-observation.
Please note that it is best to do this workshop with an empty stomach - have your breakfast by 8.00 am, so you have time to digest it before we start.
