Powerflow classes - an Overview

Powerflow is an exercise regime developed using a variety of disciplines, forms and techniques. Key result areas are to:
- build strength
- improve stamina / fitness
- increase the range of mobility / flexibility

Built around sequences of flowing, dynamic movements and semistatic poses, the heart rate is elevated to around 75% of the maximum safe rate, very efficient for burning body fat. Strong cardiovascular and respiratory content offer additional health benefits, including detoxification.

Classes start with a short ‘focusing’ and warm-up, followed by three adapted sun-salutation sequences to get the heat going. For most of the practice you will be on your feet - poses and movements are arranged to access dynamic and static muscle work. Core power is engaged for stability and internal power. The system is fueled throughout by a ‘power-breath’, and we move to the rhythm of the breath as we travel through the practice.

The standing/lungeing sequences are followed by arm balances and other upper body exercises, leading to some wind-down stretching, re-oxigenation and a brief relaxation at the end. The groups will allow you to work at a level appropriate to your abilities and aspirations - stronger options for those already fit and strong, easier options for those who need a lighter start.
