vinYoga is essentially a continuously evolving, 'organically developing' methodology to help people access dynamic yoga forms, particularly Ashtanga Yoga. This methodology, this approach to sharing/teaching yoga is the result of my journey with (and without) yoga over the past three decades or so. It is, and i hope it will remain, in a state of 'work in progress'.
I have started organising and delivering yoga classes, yoga workshops and private tuition in December 2000. At first i worked by myself, leading practice groups under the name/banner of Free Flow Yoga, supported by my teacher and mentor James Critchlow. Over the years the breadth and depth of programmes and topics has grown, many different approaches/methods of teaching have been explored, with the Ashtanga Yoga style of practice remaining at the core.
Since the introduction of Teacher Training in 2007 Trainee Teachers started assisting in the classes as supporting yoga instructors. I am now continuously running a Teacher Training Programme - please see more details on the Teacher Training page. Building on a traditional 'apprenticeship' approach, people are learning and working at various levels - we now have a loosely knit group of independent yoga practitioners, trainee teachers, active teachers and yoga instructors cooperating, sharing our knowledge and experience of the dynamic yoga forms.
The majority of my classes are still assisted by one or two Trainee Teachers, so those attending the classes get more attention and adjustments to make sure they learn the postures and movements safely and correctly, while the trainee teachers gain valuable hands-on experience in adjusting and instructing. When vinYoga trainees complete their training and set up their own classes, they have the option of publishing their profiles, class details and website links on this website - please see the current links at the bottom of this page.
We're also developing internationally, with participating teachers in Hungary, Estonia and Latvia, with more to come!
People come to our yoga classes, yoga workshops and teacher training from many different backgrounds and with great variety of experience - some already know the Ashtanga style and want to become an Ashtanga Yoga Teacher, others may have been practicing Iyengar Yoga, Sivananda Yoga or Jivamukti Yoga - we can provide suitable level of learning experience for all.
