Yoga Coventry spriteWe currently have three main areas of work, our three 'Practice Streams'- Ashtanga Yoga, Dynamic Yoga and svaYoga. Each stream has their own 'technology' and 'philosophy', providing a distinctive practice direction.

The Ashtanga direction runs along the traditional Ashtanga Yoga principles as taught by Sri T. Krishnamacharya during his Mysore years and later by Sri K Pattabhi Jois, thence called Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. It is this style that provides the backbone to the other styles too - the technique of breath/movement synchronicity, the use of connective movement (Vinyasa) between postures.

The Ashtanga stream develops the traditional sequences step by step, starting from shorter, modified routines to enable new starters to grasp the essence of the method and to build up the necessary stamina, strength and flexibility.

The Dynamic Yoga stream uses the same technique as Ashtanga Vinyasa, but the sequences are different - start from the Dynamic Yoga Primer, then moving to either the Power Flow yoga method (for those with taste for a physically more demanding, gymnastic style) or the Soft Flow method (for those looking for a more relaxing, gentle practice. Please see separate page on this method.

The svaYoga method is based on working out an individual, tailored programme for each person. This approach fits the category of yoga therapy. After the Initial Assessment a Master Plan is created and agreed, jointly by the tutor and the learner. Typically the programme would consist of recommended classes to attend, home practice addressing personal needs, abilities and aspirations and a regular review programme to monitor progress and adjust to emerging requirements. Again, please see separate page for more details.
