Please see below basic information about the three major progression streams as currently taught. We're working on developing this page further, so please come and visit it again.
1. The Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Practice Stream
1.1 Dynamic Yoga Primer (DYP) - The ‘gateway’, or entry stage - this is where our beginners start. Based on the first half of the 1st Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (AV1), it introduces the ‘technology’ of dynamic yoga styles.
1.2 Ashtanga Yoga Primer (AYP) - Building on the DYP, this level extends the range of postures developing toward the full 1st Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Usually this is a mixed ability group, where the instructions are split for ‘lighter practice’ and 'stronger practice’ with various modifications, to suit individual needs and abilities.
1.3 Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga 1st Series (AV1) Talk-through - Here we practice and ‘fine-tune’ the AV1 in full flow, as taught by the late Sri K Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, South India. Modifications are still available to work around injuries and special problem areas. Getting ready for Self-practice...
1.4 Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Self Practice - Self-practice is the stage where independent individual practice starts. You need to be fluent in the AV1 and work mostly from memory, although a ‘cheat sheet’ posture chart can be used when/if needed. When AV1 is under your belt, you can start practicing AV2 and beyond, adding poses and sequences at the rate that suits your abilities...
2. The svaYoga Practice Stream
2.1 svaYoga Master Plan - The Master Plan starts with an Initial Assessment to determine needs, abilities and aspirations. The scope and content of the Practice will be tailored according to your requirements in every way - frequency and type(s) of practice, independent study, even some diet and lifestyle adjustments, if requested.
2.2 Guided Individual Development - You run the Programme, you remain in charge - tutors/teachers will provide support and keep an eye on progress, help to adjust details where/when necessary. Usually have a mix of regular classes or private tuition and regular reviews as agreed in Master Plan.
3. The Dynamic Yoga Practice Stream
3.1 Dynamic Yoga Primer - Like for the Ashtanga Vinyasa Stream, the Dynamic Yoga Primer is the ‘gateway’, or entry stage where beginners start, developing basic understanding of the 'technology' of the Dynamic Yoga practice.
3.2 Dynamic Yoga Level 1 - Here we start to build dynamic sequences for various key result areas. Greater variety of postures and techniques, designed with a lighter and a stronger practice alternative to suit your needs and abilities.
3.3 Dynamic Yoga Soft Flow - A lighter, less intensive, softer alternative, still working dynamically, but in a more gentle manner, exploring areas more intuitively. Emphasis on stretches, opening the body, increasing the range of mobility, stripping out stress. More ‘feminine’ or more ‘masculine’ style of practice can be selected and developed at your own pace.
3.4 Dynamic Yoga Power Flow - This style is for the stronger, fitter, more athletic type, builds strength, stamina and flexibility. Strong gymnastic influences - postures, movements and techniques adopted from many sources, including Power Yoga. Every session different, lighter and stronger alternatives provided where possible. Ideal complementary discipline for sports. Not for the faint-hearted...
