This style, like many other dynamic forms, has been developed using some techniques and sequences from the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga style. During the nineties in the US it was probably Brian Kest and Beryl Bender Birch among others who made Power Yoga a well known and broadly practiced style. In the UK and mainland Europe it is the Vinyasa Flow yoga style that made its name popular. The Dynamic Yoga styles presented by us in a way combine these - could be called Power Vinyasa Yoga or Power Flow Yoga. (A separate branch under the name Powerflow has been developed with further influences from gymnastics, Tai Chi / martial arts and will soon have its own website and information package. Piloting classes are already running during mornings and lunchtimes, please see the timetable for details)
The essence is breath-movement synchronicity, dynamically, energetically traveling through yoga postures incorporating strong gymnastic influences. This is very much a physical practice driven form, but the internal dimensions still manifest - in fact they're brought out very nicely as we face our challenges posture by posture.
Heat is very important, perspiration much sought after - detoxifying is one of the key benefits, along with weight loss, much increased strength and stamina, improved body tone and flexibility.
Here we're not following the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa sequence in every detail - posture sequences resemble Vinyasa Krama a bit more - greater variety, slightly or very different practice session at every class.
You can see a bit more information on the Practice Streams page, and of course you're welcome to enquire directly by contacting Ervin for an informal discussion.
